ABOUT ABOUT

Join AIA Wichita's Women in Architecture in welcoming Sonya Jury to our community to engage in a conversation about her career.

Sonya loves puzzles.  This love of puzzles and putting things together has led to a career in architecture spanning 28 years.  With a B.S. in Architecture from University of Kansas, Sonya has worked as a Project Manager/Architect for various regional, national and international architecture firms, including her own successful practice. With a focus on general architecture, she has worked with design project teams on various facility types from athletics, hospitality, healthcare, retail, mixed-use, commercial, justice, restaurant and recreation, ranging from $250,000 to $3 Billion. Her experience and positive approach to design and practical project management gives her unique insight into the client/design team relationship. She has been a practicing architect, owner/architect and a small business owner. Currently she is a licensed architect and LEED Accredited Professional with HOK with an emphasis on college athletics and justice.  Her involvement with AIA during her career has led her to hold such positions as Chair of Design Awards, Secretary, and past President of the AIA Kansas City Chapter in 2013.   Sonya enjoys creating her own art, riding bicycles, golf, and scuba diving and currently is the Board Vice-Chair for the KIPP Endeavor Academy, a free public charter school in Kansas City.
